Mark Albrecht is a noted and highly decorated space and aerospace leader with over thirty years’ experience in intelligence, civil and national security space and the aerospace industry. He is widely consulted by the US government and industry on all matters of space policy and execution. 

From October 2016 until January 20, 2017, and again from October 2024 until January 2025, Dr. Albrecht served as an advisor on space and member of the NASA and Defense Department transition landing team for the Trump Presidential transitions.   

Until 2006, Dr. Albrecht was President of Lockheed Martin’s International Launch Services (ILS).  ILS provided launch and associated launch integration services to government and commercial customers. During his tenure at ILS, Albrecht was nominated multiple times for Satellite Executive of the Year by Via Satellite magazine.  In 2004, he was named by Space News as one of the “100 People Who Made a Difference” in space. By 2006, ILS had a backlog of over $2.0B and had booked over $6.0B of contracts and was widely recognized as the industry leader. 

Albrecht was appointed in 1989 by President George H.W. Bush as the executive secretary of the National Space Council, serving in that capacity until June 1992.  During this period, Dr. Albrecht was the President’s principal adviser on the US Space program including all national security, civil and commercial government space activities. 

Previously, Albrecht served six years as the legislative assistant for national security affairs to U.S. Sen. Pete Wilson of California.  Albrecht also held positions as a senior research analyst for the intelligence community staff in Washington, D.C., and the Rand Corp. in Santa Monica, Calif.

Albrecht has been awarded the U.S. Department of Defense Distinguished Civil Service Medal, the NASA Distinguished Service Medal and the National Space Society Space Pioneer Award.  He is the inaugural recipient of the Rand Graduate School Distinguished Alumni Award.  He has been an associate member of the Defense Science Board and has served on several advisory and corporate boards, including United Space Alliance and the American Astronautical Society. 

Albrecht graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Los Angeles, and holds a Masters degree from UCLA and a doctorate in public policy analysis from the Rand Graduate School.
