Doug is the President of MH Technology Partners, which provides R&D, technology and strategy consulting in the clean energy and resource sectors. He is currently working with academia, national labs, and industry on challenges related to next generation resource identification, extraction and processing, and is an investor and technology and commercial advisor to startups in geothermal energy, critical minerals and uncertainty quantification.   His work includes bridging between next-generation mining and space-enabled resource utilization.

From 2021-2023 Doug was Special Advisor Critical Minerals to the Under Secretary for Science and Innovation at the US Department of Energy.  Doug also held a variety of executive positions at DOE 2011-2017, including Deputy Assistant Secretary Renewable Power. Director Geothermal Technologies, and acting Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, with annual budgets of $500-900 Million.  Doug also developed or secured program-scale funding for a number of new DOE initiatives, including FORGE (Geothermal), SubTER (integrated subsurface engineering) and FutureMine (mining technology innovation).

 Doug has over 29 years experience in the oil and gas sector at Marathon Oil, including as Manager Global Exploration, Director Unconventional New Ventures and VP Atlantic Canada.  This work included both domestic and international efforts, with major projects in the Arctic, Poland, Indonesia, Canada and a host of other countries which are now more difficult to travel to.
