Anthony Genatempo

Major General Anthony “Awgie” Genatempo recently retired from the United States Air force after serving for over 34 years. In his career, he led some of the nation’s most complex modernization and innovation efforts. His senior leadership roles included Program Executive Officer for Cyber & Networks, Commander of the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, and Air Force Program executive officer for Weapons — positions that placed him at the forefront of nuclear deterrence, advanced weapons development, and enterprise technology modernization. 

Throughout his career, Maj Gen Genatempo oversaw initiatives critical to national defense — sustaining the nation’s nuclear deterrent, advancing next-generation weapons, and modernizing the Air and Space Force’s global IT and communications infrastructure. He built coalitions across the Department of Defense, industry, education, and international partners to deliver transformational technologies at scale. He also served on Capitol Hill, advising members of Congress on defense fiscal policy and appropriations bills. 

Recognized as a forward-leaning leader, Maj Gen Genatempo championed the integration of artificial intelligence into defense acquisition practices, transforming how the Air Force adopts emerging technologies. He oversaw critical offensive and defensive cyber capability development which is on our Nation’s frontline as we speak.  For his efforts, his distinguished service earned him multiple awards including five Air Force Organizational Excellence Awards.
